Isoflavonoids in non-leguminous families: an update.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Résumé en anglais This review provides a listing of isoflavonoids reported in non-leguminous families. Reviews published to date have principally focused on plants with the richest isoflavonoid contents, the family Leguminosae. After a brief recall of the structure of isoflavonoids, we present all isoflavonoid structures encountered in non-leguminous families which may, thereby, become new plant sources for these compounds. Articles reporting on their different functions in plants are presented, as well as a brief summary discussing their potential benefits for human health. A list of 135 references is given. Production of soybean isoflavone genistein in non-legume plants via genetically modified secondary metabolism pathway.
Genetic modification of secondary metabolic pathways to produce desirable natural products is an attractive approach in plant biotechnology. In our study, we attempted to produce a typical soybean isoflavone genistein, a well-known health-promoting metabolite, in non-legume plants via genetic engineering. Both overexpression and antisense suppression strategies were used to manipulate the expre...
متن کامل14-3-3 proteins act as scaffolds for GmMYB62 and GmMYB176 and regulate their intracellular localization in soybean
Isoflavonoids are plant natural compounds predominantly found in leguminous plant. They play important functions in both nitrogen fixation and stress resistance. Many clinical studies have linked dietary intake of isoflavonoids to human health benefits. Binding of 14-3-3 proteins to GmMYB176, an isoflavonoid regulator, modulates expression of key isoflavonoids gene expression and its biosynthes...
متن کاملPhytoestrogens: recent developments
Phytoestrogens are polyphenolic non-steroidal plant compounds with estrogen like activity exerted through estrogen receptors. These receptors are distributed in several tissues such as male and female reproductive systems, bones, cardiovascular and central nervous systems. These natural phenolic compounds include isoflavonoids, flavonoids, lignans and stilbenes. Isoflavonoids are the most studi...

متن کاملCloning and functional expression of a cytochrome P450 cDNA encoding 2-hydroxyisoflavanone synthase involved in biosynthesis of the isoflavonoid skeleton in licorice.
Isoflavonoids are distributed predominantly in leguminous plants and play critical roles in plant physiology. A cytochrome P450 (P450), 2-hydroxyisoflavanone synthase, is the key enzyme in their biosynthesis. In cultured licorice (Glycyrrhiza echinata L., Fabaceae) cells, the production of both an isoflavonoid-derived phytoalexin (medicarpin) and a retrochalcone (echinatin) is rapidly induced u...
